Best Ways to Manage Arthritis Pain

Rheumatoid arthritis pain can come in short, regular bursts or severe constant pain that may be so bad as to cause emotional distress. Hot/ Cold Therapy

This is a quick and effective way of relieving arthritis pain. It is particularly effective in relieving arthritis knee pain. The mix of cold and heat numbs the pain and relaxes muscles helping to bring back a level of comfort. Most drug stores sell all-in-one hot/cold pads. However, various household items can be used to achieve the same effect. Get some ice and wrap them in a thin towel. Place the towel with the ice cubes on the painful area and leave it for several minutes. Remove the towel, heat another towel, and place it in the same area.

Massages

Even though arthritis pain mostly occurs on the joints, there are times when the pain causes the surrounding muscles to be sore, tense or strained. Surgery is a last-resort method of relieving arthritis pain. This is normally applied when the pain becomes unbearably severe that it interferes with a person’s daily activities. There are a number of surgical options available. Doctors normally help patients decide which option is best for them. Surgery involves a reconstruction of the cartilage around the affected joints. Other times, the joints may have to be replaced altogether by some artificial counterpart.

It is important to note that there is food that causes arthritis pain flare-ups. This is any food with high concentrations of sugar, sodium, trans-fats and saturated fats. A rheumatoid arthritis diet should have nutrients such as selenium, omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin C. Spices are also good for arthritis patients because they have chemicals that prevent inflammation.
